At The Mill Academy, we are proud to offer a broad, balanced, and ambitious curriculum. Alongside English and Mathematics, our foundation subjects play a vital role in giving children the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to thrive in today’s world.

What are Foundation Subjects?

Foundation subjects are all the subjects of the National Curriculum beyond English, Maths, and Science. At The Mill Academy, these include:

  • Art & Design

  • Design & Technology

  • Computing

  • Geography

  • History

  • Music

  • Physical Education (PE)

  • Religious Education (RE)

  • Personal Development & RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education)

  • Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Our Approach

Each subject is taught discretely, with carefully sequenced knowledge and skills that build year on year. This ensures children know more, remember more, and can do more as they progress through school. Wherever possible, links are made across subjects and topics to provide a rich, connected curriculum.

We use the Accelerated Learning Cycle to structure our teaching, which means lessons are engaging, active, and memorable. Children are encouraged to explore, question, and apply their learning in creative and practical ways.

Please refer to the curriculum documents below for more information our each subjects approach to teaching:
